Shelby Gilson, B.S. 2026
Geological Engineering
Shelby has a B.S. in Geological Engineering and is currently completing a M.S. in Humanitarian Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, with a focus on sustainable community development and mining. She is passionate about advancing social responsibility within the mining industry and desires to work within a community engagement role post-graduation.
Shelby engaged with environmental and community-based research in international context, including: environmental remediation of heavy metal pollution in Zambia; a sociotechnical investigation of the role recyclers play in Medellin, Colombia; and engineering education research in Medellin, Colombia. Additionally, her practicum with Newmont mining explores leading practices for measuring and reporting the health of community relationships.
